Ways to Help
Volunteers founded Montgomery Hospice in 1981. Today, the time and energy volunteers donate makes it possible for Montgomery Hospice to serve all Montgomery County residents with skill and compassion.
We offer volunteers diverse opportunities to learn, grow and give. We are always seeking people with talents that match the needs of local patients and families.
Volunteers can help in many ways, depending on their interests and time available:
Patient Care volunteers visit with patients so caregivers can take a break; give soothing hand massages to ease stress; run errands or help patients with email, letters or memoirs.
Patient Care volunteers can serve in many corners of our community: in private homes, at extended care facilities, or at Casey House.
Bereavement Care volunteers offer a sympathetic ear and emotional comfort to hospice families for over a year after the death of their loved one. Volunteers work beside professional counselors to provide grief support through phone calls and home visits.
Training and Leadership volunteers improve hospice care by setting new standards in volunteer education. Professional coaches who are themselves volunteers lead our training. They constantly review instruction for effectiveness and innovation.
Fundraising and Outreach volunteers spread the word about hospice and help with fundraising events that enable Montgomery Hospice to serve patients regardless of ability to pay.
Administrative volunteers provide office support at our Rockville headquarters and at Casey House. They answer phones, help with correspondence and survey hospice families about the quality of our care.
