Teens Give and Receive

What do teen Volunteers GIVE at Casey House?

  • Help with administrative duties such as answering the phones, putting away boxes, organizing the supply and linen closets
  • Provide bedside presence and offer lavender oil hand massage to patients and their caregivers
  • Help patients document their lives through projects such as video-taping, journaling, or scrap booking
  • Participate in agency special events and fundraisers

What will teen volunteers RECEIVE?

  • Understanding of end-of-life care and how it works
  • General knowledge of the stages and processes affiliated with a terminal diagnosis
  • Recognize personal grief and learn about the feelings that can accompany grief and personal loss
  • Understand the responsibility volunteers have to maintain the standards and privacy of Montgomery Hospice and its patients
  • Understanding of how to support patients who are very ill in meaningful ways

What are the requirements for participation?

  • Student must be at least 17 years old and/or going into the eleventh grade.
  • Teen must complete required face-to-face interview and paperwork (download paperwork) before registering for the training class.
  • Teens need to complete a 4-hour volunteer training program
  • Student is responsible for providing his/her own transportation to and from Casey House.
  • Students are required to contact their volunteer manager in the event they are not able to volunteer on their assigned day.
