Nursing Services

ADMISSIONS NURSE / APPLY

Position Summary:

The Admissions Nurse assesses patients and families who request admission to Montgomery Hospice. Provides a comprehensive assessment of patients to be admitted and initiates the plan of care consistent with standards of practice and functions in other nursing capacities as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately assesses patients and family needs
  • Develops an effective working relationship with representatives from other agencies who provide services for assigned patients.
  • Identifies and recommends medical equipment and supplies that will assist in maintaining patient's comfort and caregivers' ability to provide care.
  • Identifies the need for additional services, including nutritional assessment, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy and initiates appropriate referrals.
  • Assesses need for and educates caregivers on safety and emergency preparedness, including safe use of medical equipment.
  • Conveys physician's requests to appropriate staff on appropriate forms.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current state of Maryland Nursing License. CHPN preferred
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. B.S.N preferred
  • Two years of recent acute care clinical experience.
  • Prefer critical care or previous experience in a hospice or home care program.
  • Requires strong critical thinking skills, EMR experience.

 

Casey House

ADMISSIONS NURSE, Casey House / APPLY

*Schedule: 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm, Thursdays and Fridays.

Position Summary:

The Admissions Nurse provides symptom management and emotional support to patients and families in Casey House. Completes admissions process for new patients admitted during shift. Responsible for formulating and implementing nursing plan of care consistent with the standards of practice, and functions in other capacities as needed.

HOSPICE NURSE, Casey House / APPLY

Per diem status requires a minimum of 12 hours per month and must be available for at least 1 winter and 1 summer holiday)

Position Summary:

Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team, provides nursing care to provide symptom management and emotional support in an inpatient setting, addressing physical, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care. Formulates and implement the nursing plan of care that is consistent with the standards and practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides skilled nursing care for all Casey House patients by performing a thorough assessment of patient's physical needs using effective nursing skills and judgment.
  • Ability to manage pain and control symptoms.
  • Identifies learning needs of patients/ family, teaching proper drug scheduling, personal care skills, including cares of the dying patients, the disease process and effects and side effects of medications.
  • Accurately administers prescribed medications, both routine, and PRN as indicated by patient assessment.
  • Performs specific treatments as ordered by the physician.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. B.S.N preferred.
  • Current State of Maryland Nursing License. CHPN preferred
  • Two years of recent clinical experience, preferably hospice or acute care.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to communicate effectively with patients and families under stress.
