Nursing Services

Hospice Visit Nurse / APPLY

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing direct patient care.  Makes planned and unplanned visits in the community as assigned.  Responsible for implementing plan of care consistent with standards of practice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Makes planned and unplanned visits to current hospice patients.
  • Provides nursing services for hospice patients.
  • Completes all documentation within agency guidelines and in accordance with agency standards.
  • Maintains contact with primary physicians in accordance with agency policies and in keeping with physician’s request.
  • Meets requirements for continuing educational growth and development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current licensure as an RN in Maryland, minimum of two years recent clinical experience.  Acute care or previous experience in hospice program required. Requires strong critical thinking skills, EMR experience.

Hospice Weekend Triage Nurse / APPLY

Position Summary:

Receives and processes incoming telephone calls during assigned shifts, assesses callers' needs and take appropriate actions to address those needs. Assigns weekend staff to make visits, facilitates admissions and assists with transfers to and from home and Casey House.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current licensure as an RN in Maryland, minimum of three years recent clinical experience.  Acute care or previous experience in hospice program required. Requires strong critical thinking skills, EMR experience.

Casey House

ADMISSIONS NURSE, Casey House / APPLY

Position Summary:

The Admissions Nurse provides symptom management and emotional support to patients and families in Casey House. Completes admissions process for new patients admitted during shift. Responsible for formulating and implementing nursing plan of care consistent with the standards of practice, and functions in other capacities as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately assesses patients and family needs.
  • Develops an effective working relationship with representatives from other agencies who provide services for assigned patients.
  • Identifies and recommends medical equipment and supplies that will assist in maintaining a patient's comfort and caregivers' ability to provide care.
  • Identifies the need for additional services, including nutritional assessment, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy and initiates appropriate referrals.
  • Assesses need for and educates caregivers on safety, and emergency preparedness, including safe use of medical equipment.
  • Conveys physician's requests to appropriate staff on appropriate forms. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current state of Maryland Nursing License. CHPN preferred
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. B.S.N preferred
  • Two years of recent clinical experience, preferably hospice or acute care.

Administrative

Accountant / APPLY

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Controller, the primary duties include, among other things: maintaining the accounting system and records on a day to day basis by preparing various journal entries, account reconciliation and thoroughly analyzing causes of discrepancies. Preparing financial statements, and other required management reports. Assist annual budget compiling and assist audit. The Accountant shall also perform all other duties related to the performance of the primary duties as well as other duties as may be assigned by the Controller and other members of the management team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for timely, accurate and complete General Journal entries.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations of all bank accounts. Analyzes causes of discrepancies, makes recommendations to improve process.
  • Assists annual budget preparation in collaboration with Controller and CFO.
  • Prepares audit schedules timely as requested by auditors and other special assignments.
  • Supports the implementation and maintenance of accounting software systems.
  • Serves as support person during the absence of accounts payable coordinator.
  • Reconciles accounts receivable control account to EMR patient accounts balance
  • Analyzes in detail the causes of major variances between actual result with budget and with prior year.
  • Responsible for preparing account analysis on key balance sheet accounts to assure agency’s financial position are properly recorded.
  • Reconciles vendors’ accounts to assure the accuracy of detailed records and control accounts. Investigates on difference and identifies correcting action.
  • Responsible to run various reports in accounting and EMR system per management request.
  • Prepares cost analysis reports related to patients’ direct service costs and analyze the reason if major changes.
  • Assists in preparing annual Medicare cost report, and state and federal industry surveys.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business with concentration in accounting.
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred.
  • One to three years general accounting, analysis and/or auditing experience.  Demonstrated competence in using accounting software programs and spreadsheets. Experience in healthcare and/or nonprofit environment preferred.
  • Good understanding of accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Good analytical skills and proficiency with MS office applications, especially Excel.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and proactively with the Controller and other members of the accounting/finance department and the CFO.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment including formulating, interpreting, and implementing management, financial, and accounting policies and operating practices; carrying out major accounting and business assignments; providing consultation and expert advice to Controller; monitoring  the implementation of long and short-term business and financial objectives; and in consultation with Controller resolving accounting and financial matters of significance.

Human Resources Assistant / APPLY

Position Summary: Assists with personnel file management, recruitment, orientation, benefit administration and the development and application of human resources policies.  Provides administrative and technical support to the overall operation of the Human Resources Department.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the processing and orientation of new staff including but not limited to new employee documentation,  orientation materials, gathering and answering questions about forms and required documents and establishing a method of tracking paperwork to make sure documentation is complete and filed accurately.
  • Produces photo IDS for new staff and as requested by current staff.
  • Maintains and updates employee logs and sends reminders to staff for various tracked items such as licensure.
  • Orders business cards for new employees and as requested by current staff.
  • Conducts background checks and driving record monitoring for new employees during first week of employment. Maintains background check and driving record results for current and former staff. 
  • Serves as a resource to staff on policies and procedures relating to human resources function. 
  • Replies to employment verifications and requests for references for past and present employees.
  • Assists with the administration of benefits and serves as a resource to staff on available benefits.
  • Responsible for creating monthly HR newsletter and distributing it to all employees.
  • Assists with the recruitment and hiring of new staff.
  • Monitors personnel files and HR database to ensure compliance and identify potential issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or higher in related field preferred.   
  • Must exercise independent judgment but procedures are defined and work supervised.  
  • Minimum of one year experience in Human Resources Department. Able to demonstrate understanding of legal requirements of employment laws and regulations. Previous experience in healthcare setting desirable.
  • Excellent computer experience, including word processing and Internet research capability. 
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and develop written communication and ability to communicate in person and over the phone with all levels of managers, staff and the public.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated aptitude for positive interactions with diverse population.
  • Ability to maintain effectiveness in stressful situations.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions, occasionally subjected to irregular hours.  Must be able to remain calm and objective in working with employees.
  • Ability to operate routine office equipment.
