Nursing Services

Visit Nurse / APPLY

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing patient care services. Makes planned and unplanned visits as assigned. Responsible for implementing plan of care consistent with standards of practice. May assess patients and families who request admission to Montgomery Hospice to determine appropriateness for admission to hospice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Make planned and unplanned visits to current hospice patients.
  • Ensures implementation of the plan of care.
  • Develops effective working relationships with representatives from other agencies who provide services for assigned patients.
  • Provides nursing services to hospice patients by effectively solving problems using critical thinking skills and able to demonstrate proficiency in anticipating symptom management needs.
  • Provides initial assessment of hospice patients by coordinating with other disciplines as appropriate.
  • Completes all documentation within agency guidelines and in accordance with agency guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. B.S.N preferred.
  • Current State of Maryland Nursing License. CHPN preferred.
  • Two years of recent clinical experience, preferably with critical care or previous experience in a hospice or homecare program.
  • Requires strong critical thinking skills and EMR experience.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to communicate effectively with patients and families under stress.

Casey House

Hospice Nurse / APPLY

  • Schedule: Overnight: 7:00pm - 7:00am (Sunday, Wednesday & Thursday)

Position Summary:

Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team, provides nursing care to provide symptom management and emotional support in an inpatient setting, addressing physical, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care. Formulates and implement the nursing plan of care that is consistent with the standards and practices. Requires availability for 12-hour shifts (7p-7a). Extensive orientation for acute care hospice nursing but must be flexible and available for multiple shifts per month. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides skilled nursing care for all Casey House patients by performing a thorough assessment of patient's physical needs using effective nursing skills and judgment.
  • Ability to manage pain and control symptoms.
  • Identifies learning needs of patients/ family, teaching proper drug scheduling, personal care skills, including cares of the dying patients, the disease process and effects and side effects of medications.
  • Accurately administers prescribed medications, both routine, and PRN as indicated by patient assessment.
  • Performs specific treatments as ordered by the physician.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. B.S.N preferred.
  • Current State of Maryland Nursing License. CHPN preferred
  • Minimum one year of recent clinical nursing experience in medical-surgical, oncology or critical care environment. Previous hospice experience strongly preferred.

Hospice Aide / APPLY

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing personal care as well as assisting with activities of daily living, which may include meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping and grocery shopping for assigned patients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follows the AIDE plan of care developed for each patient, under the supervision of the Montgomery Hospice Nurse.
  • Observes and reports any changes in patient’s condition immediately to Montgomery Hospice Nurse.
  • Completes documentation for each visit as directed.
  • Continually assesses own skill and knowledgebase and actively seeks additional training through available resources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current CNA license in the State of Maryland required
  • At least 2 years’ experience working for a Hospice program required
  • Requires both verbal and written communication skills. Requires ability to assimilate easily into emotionally charged environment. Demonstrates gentleness and empathy toward patients. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in required skills.
  • Will need to lift, position and transfer patients safely. Manual dexterity and mobility needed, particularly in emergency situations. Must be able to follow written and verbal directions. Job can be emotionally stressful.

Receptionist / APPLY

  • Schedule: 20 hours, Monday – Friday (8:30am – 12:30pm)

Position Summary:

The Receptionist is responsible for answering, screening and transferring all calls.  Functions of this position include greeting and attending to visitors; sorting and distributing mail; handling/receiving; sending packages/deliveries; maintaining reception area; and processing administrative assignments as required.  Timeliness and regular attendance is critical for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Logs into automatic call distribution system on arrival and maintains available status.
  • Sends outlook text messages to appropriate clinical teams when required, enters calendar entry reminder, and changes entry when resolved.
  • Maintains awareness of queue light and retrieves call quickly from the queue.
  • Assist in coordinating services with the answering services by transferring and retrieving phone lines daily.
  • Provides clerical support for the agency by completing various administrative projects as requested.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Two to five years of clerical experience, preferably with Microsoft Office skills and experience answering multi-line phone.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Some college or business school preferred.
  • Typing 50 wpm.
  • Excellent communication/verbal skills.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly on the telephone.
  • Maintain effectiveness in stressful situations.
  • Handle multiple tasks efficiently.
