Nursing Services

Primary Nurse / APPLY

Position Summary:

Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team, provides nursing care to provide symptom management and emotional support in an inpatient setting, addressing physical, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care. Formulates and implement the nursing plan of care that is consistent with the standards and practices.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides case management for hospice patients.
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing plans of care for assigned caseload on a weekly basis.
  • Provides primary nursing services for assigned patients.
  • Actively participates in and supports Shared Care model as adapted by Montgomery Hospice.
  • Serves as contact person of the day, alternating with other team members.
  • Completes all documentation within agency guidelines and in accordance with agency standards.
  • Maintains contact with primary physicians in accordance with agency policies and in keeping with physician’s request.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. B.S.N preferred.
  • Current State of Maryland Nursing License. CHPN preferred.
  • Two years of recent clinical experience, preferably with critical care or previous experience in a hospice or homecare program. 
  • Requires strong critical thinking skills and EMR experience.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to communicate effectively with patients and families under stress.

 

Casey House

Hospice Nurse / APPLY

Position Summary:

Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team, provides nursing care to provide symptom management and emotional support in an inpatient setting, addressing physical, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care. Formulates and implement the nursing plan of care that is consistent with the standards and practices. Requires availability for 12-hour shifts (7a-7p & 7p-7a). Extensive orientation for acute care hospice nursing but must be flexible and available for multiple shifts per month. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides skilled nursing care for all Casey House patients by performing a thorough assessment of patient's physical needs using effective nursing skills and judgment.
  • Ability to manage pain and control symptoms.
  • Identifies learning needs of patients/ family, teaching proper drug scheduling, personal care skills, including cares of the dying patients, the disease process and effects and side effects of medications.
  • Accurately administers prescribed medications, both routine, and PRN as indicated by patient assessment.
  • Performs specific treatments as ordered by the physician.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. B.S.N preferred.
  • Current State of Maryland Nursing License. CHPN preferred
  • Minimum one year of recent clinical nursing experience in medical-surgical, oncology or critical care environment. Previous hospice experience strongly preferred.

Complementary Therapies

Hospice Massage Therapist / APPLY

Job Summary:

The Massage Therapist is responsible for providing massage therapy to meet the needs of patients. Functions of this position include assessing patient needs and selecting appropriate massage therapy interventions; collaborating with team members on the use of massage therapy to meet patient and family needs; and participating in the training of volunteers and/or staff in massage interventions including hand massage and Comfort Touch®.

Requirements:

  • Licensed Massage Therapist in the State of Maryland.
  • Certification by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and/or Massage Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEX).
  • 3+ years professional experience as LMT, preferably including work with terminally ill, frail, elderly, geriatric, and/or dementia clients/patients, in hospice/palliative care setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing Comfort Touch®, manual lymph drainage, and/or oncology massage, as well as Reiki and/or other energy modalities.
  • Experience working in clinical, hospital and/or hospice environments
  • Training and/or experience in contemplative practice and/or mindful communication
  • Experience providing Comfort Touch®, manual lymph drainage, and/or oncology massage, as well as Reiki and/or other energy modalities.
